This annual celebration of hip hop music and culture serves to highlight the genre's legacy as a symbol and facilitator of artistic progression, community building, and social change; the event is as educational as it is entertaining. Presented by Brooklyn Bodega, this multi-day festival returns for the 13th year in a row, bringing you some of the hottest names in hip hop, as well as an awards show, series of panels, movie screenings, exhibitions, and a block party that is fun for the whole family!


Manhattenhenge

When: July 12 at 8:20 PM & July 13 at 8:21 PM

Where: Best viewing is on 14th, 23rd, 34th, & 42nd Streets

Manhattanhenge – also known as the Manhattan Solstice – occurs twice a year when the sunset aligns perfectly with the east/west-running streets of midtown Manhattan. July 12 will experience the phenomenon known as the "Full Sun on the Grid," during which 100% of the sun will be visible on the horizon; July 13 will showcase a half-sun in the "Half Sun on the Grid" experience. Expert tip: the best photos can be taken on the Tudor City Bridge between Grand Central and the UN.


Carnaval de la Cultura Latina

For the past decade, this all-day street fair has been hosted in Corona, Queens during Hispanic Heritage Month. Corona – which plays home to a diverse Latino population from all over Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean – will be full of activities and interactive experiences, with a focus on family health and well-being. This celebration will showcase the art, music, dance, and delicious foods from Latino cultures globally. 80,000 people attended in 2016 and that number is only expected to grow!


Fela Kuti Tribute Concert

When: July 16 from 2 - 7 PM

Roy Ayers – who has collaborated with Fela Kuti on numerous occasions – will join with Fela’s son Seun & band Egypt 80, in a one-of-a-kind tribute to the Afrobeat pioneer, along with Brooklyn-based Underground System and DJ Rich Medina as well. Doors open at 2PM and the tribute kicks off at 3PM. This is a collaboration not to be missed!
